Plakias

A lot of good restaurants and taverns will not let you down if you like Greek cuisine or even International ones. A lot of activities are offered for the guests of this village like swimming, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, trekking and so on.

 

- There are so many choices of beaches you can have that a week holidays is not enough. In the east side of Plakias you can find Agios Pavlos, Agios Pavlos sand hills,small Triopetra, Triopetra, Ligres, Katsouni, Glima , Podare, Pirgos, Gialopotama, Anatolika, Drymiskos bays, Amoudi, Preveli ( don't forget to visit Kato moni Preveli and Piso Moni Preveli), Shinaria, Amoudi, Amoudaki, Damnoni, Caravos cape, Paligremnos and Plakias beach. At the west side of Plakias you can find Agia Marina, Peristeres, Polirizos, Korakas, Klimata, Stavri, Kokinos Volakas, Souda, Fotinari, Fotinaraki, Skinos. We suggest you to start exploring this side by using a small dirty road beginning from Souda beach and heading to Rodakino. Most of those beaches can be reached by small dirty roads and some times will need a small walk of 10 minutes. Ask local people if there is need to get supplies with you.

 

  • Kourtaliotis gorge is the biggest you can find in the area but you can also try (if you like that kind of activities ) visiting Kotsyfos gorge, Perdikaris gorge or Skaloti gorge.

 

  • Religion points of interest, Preveli monastery is the most famous you can visit in that area and is also one of the most famous in all Crete. There are two monasteries, the old one and the new one. You can make a combination of visiting both of them by the day you are going to visit Preveli beach.

 

 

  • And do not hesitate to make a small trip to Rethymno city with its beautiful old town, the mane city of this district, while it is only half hour driving from Plakias.
